Packers release Hawk

After much consideration, the Green Bay Packers have announced the release of linebacker A.J. Hawk.

The linebacker was scheduled to make $10 million in 2011, a number the team simply couldn’t justify.

General manager Ted Thompson said it is strictly a business decision and they hope to retain Hawk.

The team plans on trying to negotiate a new contract with the linebacker that will make more financial sense for the team.

Hawk has been overshadowed by fellow linebacker Clay Matthews but was still one of the team’s defensive leaders.

Packers could deal Flynn

The Green Bay Packers continue to receive interest in backup quarterback Matt Flynn and could deal him.

A number of teams were impressed with Flynn’s performance when he filled in for for concussed starter Aaron Rodgers.

He nearly lead the team to a victory on Monday night in New England, showing surprising poise for such an inexperienced quarterback.

The Tennessee Titans are one team that has shown the most interest given their dire quarterback situation.

The Carolina Panthers might also be willing to swing a deal for Flynn, who probably wouldn’t cost very much.

Packers hold off Steelers to win Super Bowl, 31-25

The Green Bay Packers held on late to gain a 31-15 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers and win the Super Bowl.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was simply sensational, throwing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns.

Jordy Nelson was the recipient of a lot of those passes from Rodgers, catching nine for 140 yards and a touchdown.

Fellow wide receiver Greg Jennings hauled in four passes for 64 yards, including two for touchdowns.

Rodgers was named the game’s MVP and finished the night hoisting the Lombardi Trophy with the championship belt draped over his shoulder.

Packers hold off Bears, 21-14

The Green Bay Packers jumped out to an early lead and then held on for a 21-14 win over the Chicago Bears.

While quarterback Aaron Rodgers had another solid day, it was the defense that really stole the show.

Green Bay’s defense, which is vastly underrated, knocked quarterbacks Jay Cutler and Todd Collins out of the game.

The flip side was that the Packers almost allowed Chicago’s third-string quarterback to rally them back.

The Packers now head back to the Super Bowl for the first time in over a decade and will face the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Packers slip past Bears, 10-3

The host Green Bay Packers overcame a sluggish first half to slip past the Chicago Bears, 10-3.

After a scoreless first half, Green Bay finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter with a game-tying field goal.

The game-winning touchdown came in the final period of play, and Green Bay’s defense sealed the win with a late interception.

The Packers clinched the final wild card spot with the victory, and they wouldn’t have made the playoffs without a win.

The Giants held on to beat the Redskins, meaning the Packers had to beat the Bears to get into the playoffs.

Packers throttle Giants, 45-17

The Green Bay Packers took a huge step toward reaching the postseason with a 45-17 beatdown of the New York Giants.

With the victory, the Packers just need to win their game next Sunday to assure themselves of a spot in the playoffs as one of the two wild card teams.

The Packers took advantage of a suspect New York secondary to throw the ball all over the field and come up with a bunch of big plays.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was sensational, throwing for 404 yards and four touchdowns in his first game back since suffering a concussion.

Wide receivers Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson combined for almost 270 yards and a touchdown. Fullback John Kuhn scored three touchdowns.

Packers can’t top Patriots, 31-27

The Green Bay Packers rallied back late but could not get into the end zone in a 31-27 loss to the New England Patriots.

Without quarterback Aaron Rodgers, no one seemed to give the Packers a chance to pull the upset.

Backup quarterback Matt Flynn played extremely well in the loss, but just came up a little short at the end.

Flynn threw for more than 250 yards and three touchdowns, outdueling counterpart Tom Brady.

However, he was unable to find the end zone at the end of the game with the ball at the Patriots 10-yard line.

Packers roll past 49ers, 34-16

The host Green Bay Packers overcame a slow start to roll past the San Francisco 49ers, 34-16.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a big day, as did wide receivers Greg Jennings and Donald Driver.

Rodgers finished the day just a couple yard shy of 300 yards passing and had three touchdowns. He also ran for nearly 40 yards.

Jennings once again stole the show for the Packers, racking up 122 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Not to be outdone, Driver had a ridiculous 61-yard touchdown on a player where he ran around and through several defenders to get into the end zone.

The defense took care of the rest, holding San Francisco under 300 yards of total offense and recording four sacks.

Packers fall to Falcons, 20-17

The Green Bay Packers rallied back late but still fell short in a 20-17 loss to the host Atlanta Falcons.

The Packers must still be smarting from a controversial completed pass near the end of the first half.

Tony Gonzalez appeared like he dropped a pass, but the officials ruled it a catch on the field. The play was not reviewed.

The Falcons went on to score a touchdown just before the end of the half, and those seven points really came back to hurt Green Bay.

With the loss, the Packers fall one game behind the Chicago Bears for first place in the NFC North.

Packers nipped by Dolphins, 23-20

The banged up Green Bay Packers ran out of steam in a 23-20 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins.

The Packers put forth a great effort, with quarterback Aaron Rodgers scoring the game-tying touchdown with seconds to play.

Rodgers finished the day with 313 yards through the air with one touchdown and one interception. He also had the one rushing touchdown.

Greg Jennings finally broke out after a season-long slump, finishing with six catches for 133 yards and a touchdown.

The bottom line is that the Packers need to get Jennings and their running game going if they want to keep alive Super Bowl hopes.
